Fitness

Small lessons. Useful next steps.

Health tips are general education, not a diagnosis or a personal treatment plan. A clinician can help with symptoms or advice suited to your health.

Metabolism

Understand your engine

Metabolism turns food and drink into energy, even while you rest. Body size, muscle, age and daily movement influence energy use. A supplement promising a faster metabolism is no shortcut to lasting habits.

Try this

Choose one repeatable movement habit this week rather than buying a “metabolism booster.”

Nutrition

Build variety into your meals

Healthy eating can fit different cultures and preferences. Aim for variety and balance: vegetables, fruit, whole grains, legumes and other nutritious foods. Your needs depend on your health and activity.

Try this

Add a vegetable or beans to a meal you already enjoy. Ask a registered dietitian for a plan tailored to you.

Working out

Start small. Build a rhythm.

For adults, CDC recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate activity weekly and strength work on 2 days. You can split activity into shorter sessions; some movement is better than none.

Try this

Schedule a manageable walk and two strength sessions suited to your abilities. Ask your clinician about appropriate activity if you have a health condition.

Daily movement

Make movement convenient

Pick activities you enjoy and set achievable goals. Tracking your activity can help you see your progress.

Try this

Put a short walk on your calendar, then record how long you moved.

Recovery

Give sleep a place in the plan

Adults aged 18–60 generally need at least 7 hours of sleep; needs vary with age. Consistent bed and wake times and a quiet, cool bedroom can help.

Try this

Try a consistent wake time and switch off screens 30 minutes before bed. Discuss recurring sleep problems with your healthcare provider.

Nail health

Clues, not a health score

Nail color, texture or shape changes can have different causes, some harmless and some requiring treatment. Nail appearance alone cannot tell you whether your whole body is healthy.

Try this

Notice new changes and arrange a dermatologist assessment, especially for a new or changing dark streak, lifting nail, or redness and swelling. Avoid diagnosing a deficiency from a video.

Put an idea into practice. Completed activities can earn merit in this pillar.

Reading tips does not award merit. Choose a goal after you complete the activity. Health and safety cards link to their sources; other cards offer practical ideas to try.
